Do you own a vacuum to clean the inside of your car out?

Asked by jca (36062points) February 16th, 2017

I just got some minor body work done on my car and before I had that done, I cleaned the car out. It needs a major detailing inside. I need to do a good vacuuming, wiping the dashboard, etc.

Do you own a vacuum for the inside of your car or do you use one at a car wash, or do you have people do it for you?

I am considering buying a vacuum for the inside of the car (as part of my renewed effort to keep my car clean LOL).

I have a Sears Wet /Dry Shop Vac . I have a small one in my barn. I also keep a large one in my garage and use it for all sorts of things. It is perfect for the car. I use it to blow out air filters, vacuum the entrance to the house, clean my car, blow dust off the engine, etc.
Even the small $50 unit works great.

I use my regular vac, but I put netting over the nozzel to go under and into the seats, so I get change, screws, and other objects without that damaging clatter clack.

There’s a $3 car wash near my place, use of the big ol’ vacuums is included.

I have a similar shop vac that @LuckyGuy does and a smaller one that is easier to move around. The small one has a mount on the wall where it hangs. I use it 95% of the time. It was also about $50

I generally use the one at the car wash. The sucker is powerful.

For on-the-go emergencies I have a small one that plugs into the lighter or the USB outlet on the dash. I got it for about $3 at a dollar store – then found it on E-Bay for $26. Our dollar store sometimes gets wonderful random deals like that. It’s surprisingly good (for a $3 vacuum) at picking up dog hair – which is usually the issue.

I get an inside/outside job done when I get the car washed and being it’s just me, the car usually doesn’t need anything in between. If it does need a pick-me-up, I use my Dustbuster.

I might have someone at a car wash or service station give it a good vacuuming, then take it home and get out my super sucking Compact Electra. I’d use a Rainbow if I had one.

I must live near @Call_Me_Jay as we also have a $3.00 drive through car wash I go to once a week called Dr. Suds that I also vacuum out each time I go. Done in 3 minutes or less no extension cords to wind up.

No. I just use the house vacuum.

The wet/dry shop vacs have a big advantage over house vacuum cleaners. They can be used to clean up water and large debris. You should never use an inside vacuum cleaner to soak up water. The collection bags quickly saturate and get moldy. Most shop vacs can do that easily. Some even come with a drain plug in case there is a lot of water.
