Sell Car(s) Quickly?

Asked by anonyjelly16 (747points) August 15th, 2008

What is the quickest way to sell our car(s) in Chicago? We may need to sell one or both of our cars. If we go to the dealer, would we lose a lot of money? Is Ebay, Craigslist or Auto Trader the best way to do this? We will not be trading in the car(s) for something else. We just need to get rid of the car(s).

Craigslist is the way to go. I’ve never sold a car before via Craigslist, but I have sold other items successfully. Be sure to include pictures and enough information as possible.

Good Luck!

Selling to a dealer is quick and easy, but you might only get half what you would otherwise.

If you sell the car on your own, there is a danger that the buyer will not register the vehicle properly, which could cause headaches for you in the future if the owner doesn’t pay a ticket or abandons the vehicle.

petethepothead: if you turn in your plates to motor vehicles, doesn’t that prove to them that you no longer own the car? maybe i’m mistaken?
