How do I get rid of annoying ad that seems to be imbedded in my browser?

This ad for AntivirusXP2008 has somehow popped up in my browser and covers the homepage and other pages it claims to have found viruses and offers to get rid of them for 49.95, I have virus protection plan and dont want this. I have tried ‘remove program’ but it persists. Any ideas Flutherers?

I think you have a trojan horse “adware virus”...I do, and have NOT been able to get rid of it, despite my best efforts. If you find the answer to this problem, please let me know!

Get Adblock Plus Firefox add on. It’s pretty popular and works well.

Edit – you didn’t mention what browser you are running on. If you don’t have Firefox, you can go to the adblock plus site and get the program from there. What browser do you use?
