Asked by El_Cadejo (34610points) September 15th, 2008

I cant find a single likeable thing about this woman. If you like her, can you please tell me what it is? Dont turn this into an obama/mccain debate either. They shouldnt even be mentioned. I just want to know what you like about her.And can you also explain the whole refusing to give an interview thing?

she’s hot!

I AM SO SORRY IF THIS SOUNDS LAME, BUT SOMEONE HAD TO SAY IT

augustlan's avatar

I knew that would be the first response!

Wine3213's avatar

@windex: At least you got it out the way. Besides her being somewhat attractive, I have found anything else.

Nimis's avatar

Her lipstick?

El_Cadejo's avatar

I knew asking this question that was the only response id get.

windex's avatar

…she can survive the cold?

hope that counts as an ability…

tinyfaery's avatar

She’s great fodder for Tina Fey.

Hobbes's avatar

She is pro-contraception
She’d at least reduce the government overspending
Recognizes the AIDS crises among Alaskan Natives
She wants to encourage small business growth, though she plans to do it by reducing businness taxes
She smoked marijuana when it was legal under Alaska law.
She supports the Peace Core
She recognizes that only a very small percent of Islamic believers are extreme.

Note that these are the only things I was able to cherry-pick from a ten-page long list of idiotic, close-minded, dangerous policies.

shockvalue's avatar

She’ll be easy to assassinate.

MacBean's avatar

I like her glasses.

jrpowell's avatar

She is there for a reason. And one reason only. And everyone knows it.

Policy wise I think she is just about wrong about everything.

Trustinglife's avatar

What is that reason that “everyone” knows?

Although I got disgusted watching her for one whole minute, I do appreciate her boldness, her candor, her frank ambition, and her willingness to trailblaze. Great question.

jrpowell's avatar

@Trustinglife
She was picked to get pissed off Clinton supporters. The polls show that it isn’t really working. So McCain might have rolled the dice and had them land in the dealers martini glass. She is unqualified, poor at public speaking, and wasn’t properly vetted. And did you know she fathered a black child in 2000?

Trustinglife's avatar

thanks. Anything you can find to appreciate?

bluemukaki's avatar

I like her ability to have a mention in every front-page article on Digg for 3 weeks straight. Even the iPhone doesn’t get attention like that.

JackAdams's avatar

What do I like about her?

The fact that I am not related to her, for starters…

GAMBIT's avatar

The one think I like about Governor Palin is that she was willing to answer the call when John McCain picked her as his running mate. She could have very easily said that she was too busy raising her children or that she was quite happy and content with her job in Alaska. I also believe that Governor Palin knew that with the popularity of Senator Obama, before and after the Democratic Convention, it would be hard for her to win over America since she was virtually unknown.

Margaret Thatcher Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979–1990 said “
In politics, if you want anything said ask a man. If you want anything done, ask a woman”.

@shockvalue You may well regret every making that statement on the net!

I like everything about SP and nearly nothing about BO, however he is a good speaker.

SuperMouse's avatar

She has the flavor to rock a Highlander half ponytail. That one’s for you Gimmedat.

syz's avatar

Nothing. While I was initially pleased by the choice of a woman, as I learned more about her, I found her to be a great embarrassment. I fear she may make it even harder to a woman of worth to attain the presidency (and while I was never a strong Clinton supporter, she is clearly a more viable option than Palin).

tWrex's avatar

I actually like her a great deal. I think she speaks publicly very well and when everyone bashed her interview, I really didn’t see what they were talking about. I feel like people want to hate her just because they want to hate her. Because she’s a Republican and not a Democrat. Because she’s on the McCain ticket (who I am not happy about as a choice, but that’s why I’m voting for R.P. and Cindy Lauper). I love the fact that she hunts. I love the fact that she’s pro-life. And I love the fact that she actually visited the troops.I also think it’s great that when she was “featured” on SNL (by Tina Fey) she herself said she thought it was funny. The fact that she can laugh at herself makes her seem much more human than most politicians. and she is hot

Hobbes's avatar

@tRex – Palin is very charismatic, but when you actually look at her policies, 99% of them are either small-minded and ignorant or very poorly thought out.

cheebdragon's avatar

Just because you don’t agree with her views, does not make her “small minded and ignorant”........

SquirrelEStuff's avatar

@Hobbes

You said,“She recognizes that only a very small percent of Islamic believers are extreme.”

How many Christian believers does she think is extreme?

deaddolly's avatar

Nothing. At first i was excited becasue she’s a woman. Then I heard her open her mouth and read about her. I’m hoping she falls outta the helicopter while shooting the wolves…and then they eat her.

cheebdragon's avatar

Where does it say she was shooting wolves???

augustlan's avatar

I don’t know if she actually shot wolves from the air, but she certainly thinks hunting is a family affair.

shockvalue's avatar

Who is that kid and lady kneeling over Palin?

deaddolly's avatar

there’s been clips of her in a helicopter shooting wolves for sport, which she evidently thinks is fun. i’d like to shoot her from a helicopter and see how she likes it.

She’s not qualified. She’s an idiot.

tWrex's avatar

Links of her shooting wolves people?

tinyfaery's avatar

This could be your next vice president. Yikes!

cheebdragon's avatar

dolly- please provide links!

tinyfaery's avatar

Oops, forgot the link to my post.

deaddolly's avatar

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGPFPBmzRrQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6T85cOGc8L0

Or just Goggle it…lots of links. I saw it on the National news.

tinyfaery's avatar

I cannot watch those. After all I have done to ensure the lives animals, I cannot fathom such a stance on hunting. Talk about my polar opposite.

tWrex's avatar

LoL… I appreciate the links. I never saw Palin shooting a wolf. I saw people talking about her stances on it – which I’ll agree are disgusting if accurately portrayed – but as far as the actual legislation on that goes, I don’t know enough to talk about it so I’ll have to do some research.

@tinyfaery The link you provided is of a photoshopped image and someone saying things that we can’t verify the voice or authenticity of. If you can provide concrete evidence, I’ll concede, but youtube is worse than quoting wikipedia.

@deaddolly I watched both of those and neither showed her shooting anything. Again, images with people talking about her stance, but where are the bills she signed? Those are usually in those slam commercials.

Now I know everyone here is an animal lover – as am I. I would die for my dog, without a doubt – but what are your points of view on the barbaric ideology of Obama on partial birth abortions?

Again, I’m gonna check out what the actual truth is by deriving it from her voting records and the such.

tinyfaery's avatar

I’m not trying to make a point. How do you know it’s photoshopped? I think it’s funny. Unlike killing animals.

No such thing as a partial-birth abortion. That is a political term.

cheebdragon's avatar

tiny, that’s not a real picture of palin. Check snopes.com

Dolly, palin was in 1 picture…..she wasn’t in the plane shooting them… and the picture she was in, the people appeared to be wearing something white, such as mountain sheep or polar bear…white wolves are really not that common, mostly gray and black, that’s just from what i’ve read about them, I could be wrong, but either way, those videos don’t show palin in a plane shooting them.

tWrex's avatar

Ok… I’ll rephrase partial-birth abortion. Late-term abortion. Either way it’s the same thing. Here’s his stance
and here’s the abortion survivor featured in a commercial I saw the other day. Here’s a post with pictures of this sick act. And here’s pretty much the definitive link source for the issue – in reference to Obama (voting records, etc).

tinyfaery's avatar

I agree 100% with Obama.

tWrex's avatar

While this really isn’t the thread to discuss this, I can’t stop myself.

@tinyfaery So you value animal life over human life? That’s what you’re saying right? (not attempting to incite you, just asking)

tinyfaery's avatar

See my post on what I consider a life. And yes, I do value animal life over human life, for the most part. I’ve never met a racist/sexist/homophobic/ego-centric/inconsiderate (need I go on) animal.

shockvalue's avatar

I’m voting for Nader.

Trustinglife's avatar

Then I’ll vote for Gandhi.
Unless Palin is his running mate.

tWrex's avatar

@tinyfaery Ok and I can see exactly where you’re coming from with that pov. And you’re right I’ve never met a racist/sexist/etc animal, so I can totally understand your logic. (I’m not making jokes or anything. I really do understand what you’re saying.)

cheebdragon's avatar

I have met a racist dog….

SuperMouse's avatar

@Cheeb, was it a dog that wouldn’t interact with people of a certain color? If so that is really interesting!

deaddolly's avatar

I’m pro-choice all the way. I would never attempt to tell another woman what she should do with her body.
And I’m an animal lover all the way. Pallin did talk about her hunting wolves excursions with excitment.
She’s an idiot.

cheebdragon's avatar

Dolly- Please provide a link! I would love to see where your drawing this conclusion from…..

deaddolly's avatar

Sorry, no time to look for the link (I’m at work).. it was on ABC news right after her nomination.
Help, someone?

cheebdragon's avatar

supermouse- several years ago I had a miniature Doberman who really didn’t care for anyone who was African american. I have several friends who are black and and a few of them lived right next door and they were at my house almost every day, but she never did get use to them, if they tried to pet her she would growl at them…...

cheebdragon's avatar

Still no luck finding the link?

deaddolly's avatar

so sorry…am on my way to Chicago. Will try to look over the weekend.

deaddolly's avatar

ok, so can’t find the link to the video….but I did run across this aritcle:
No Wolf Whistles for Sarah Palin’s Compassion
by Walter Brasch
Sarah Palin and George W. Bush both believe they are fiscal conservatives, but both are more “tax-and-spend” than the wildest liberal.Defibrillator usage increased last week after John McCain announced Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate and only a heartbeat from the presidency. But, shortly after most Republicans were shocked back to life they circled the wagons to declare she was the perfect choice. Apparently, the cure also included a dose of psychotropic drugs as well.

The pundits and commentators rallied beside Palin, even lying about how great her ghost-written acceptance speech was, apparently in the mistaken belief that they are being fair and balanced. Since Palin is the topic of everyone’s greatest love or deepest enmity, I won’t be writing about her life and most of her positions.

I won’t write about her lack of experience—or her outrageous statements that she has more experience than Barack Obama, and her delusion that she deserves any of Hillary Clinton’s 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling.

Although I would like to say something about her vicious attacks on community organizers, persons who sacrifice so much to help those with so little, I won’t. That’s for others to talk about.

The fact she’s running on a ticket headed by a man who opposes lobbyist influence, yet had her inauguration as governor sponsored by an oil company—well, I won’t even bring that up. And, of course, I won’t say anything about her excessive use of pork barrel funds that McCain also opposes. And, I see no reason to point out that McCain’s first two choices of Joe Lieberman and Tom Ridge were somehow vetoed by the Republican leadership.

I’ll let others write about how Sarah Palin and George W. Bush both believe they are fiscal conservatives, but both are more “tax-and-spend” than the wildest liberal. For Bush, it was beginning office with a surplus of more than $236 billion and running up a $427 billion debt in less than five years. For Palin, it was a balanced budget at the beginning of her six years as mayor of a town of 5,000, and leaving it with a debt of about $20 million.

Although there is no evidence she has had any interest in foreign policy, she did manage to tell us she’s sure that the war in Iraq is “God’s will,” and that Americans soldiers were sent to Iraq on a “task that is from God.” Nope. I won’t write about that, either.

There’s really no need to comment upon the two ethics investigations that have been launched against her for abuse of her office or reasons why seven witnesses suddenly have decided not to testify.

There’s no reason for me to discuss her belief that Alaska schools should teach creationism, and that she’s has doubts about the ‘theory’ of evolution.

The fact that she believes library books should be banned if they have passages that disagree with her own beliefs, and that she tried to fire the city librarian who disagreed with her beliefs, won’t even be discussed.

And, certainly, I won’t discuss her personal family life. Not her beauty queen background or her family values agenda that opposes single motherhood and supports only abstinence education instead of a comprehensive sexual education program. Her unmarried 17-year-old high school drop-out pregnant daughter can discuss that.

I certainly won’t write about her belief that she is certainly not a proponent of the Green movement, and apparently believes it must be magic fairy dust that created Global Warming, since she doesn’t believe that people caused what’s melting the ice in Alaska and putting polar bears in danger of extinction. Not that she cares—she supports disrupting the balance of nature by drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), which McCain opposes, and opposes a federal rule, enacted by the Bush Administration, which makes polar bears a threatened species.

And that’s what I am going to write about. Sarah Palin and her boom-boom mentality. She loves to kill animals. As a youth, she went out daily so she could enjoy mooseburgers. I don’t know how much burgers a slaughtered moose can provide, but I suspect that if she, her family, and all of their friends ate all of the moose she killed, the cholesterol and obesity levels in Wasilla, Alaska, would be significantly higher than the national average.

Alaska is the only state that allows hunters to use helicopters not only to kill wolves but also to chase them down and then execute them while they lay exhausted from the chase.Killing moose is apparently one of the reasons that as governor she encourages wolf hunts. Alaska is the only state that allows hunters to use helicopters not only to kill wolves but also to chase them down and then execute them while they lay exhausted from the chase. No hunter would ever consider this to be fair chase hunting.

Palin has even offered a $150 bounty for every wolf killed in Alaska. Kill every one of the 9,000 or so wolves in Alaska, and the shooters will reap a harvest of about $1.3 million. And, don’t worry about wolves being extinct in Alaska. There’s still another 5,000 or so in the Lower 48, most of which are protected by the Endangered Species Act.

Wolves are highly intelligent social animals, who are loyal to their mates, care for their children, and protective of all in their pack. Humans should emulate them rather than murder them.

But just this past May, Sarah Palin had no problem with her own Department of Fish and Game killing 14 orphaned wolf pups in their own dens, in violation of her state’s own law.

Killing wolves doesn’t give hunters the excuse that they kill for meat or clothing. Wolves provide absolutely no meat value, and wolf coats are just not the fashion item for this season. Except when deliberately provoked, wolves don’t attack humans. Even then, wolves try to avoid human contact.

So, the killing of wolves serves only two purposes. The first is because Mighty Joe Hunter can get a trophy. Sarah Palin is a close ally of the Safari Club, which believes in killing animals and mounting their heads on cedar-paneled walls. The other reason is because wolves are her competitor—they hunt caribou and moose, the kind that Sarah Palin wants for her own dinner table.

No, I won’t write about Sarah Palin’s political philosophies. Her disregard for life is enough.

frankly, that woman scares the living hell out of me.

Judi's avatar

We know that she graduated after attending 6 different colleges with a degree in Journalisim. Does anyone know her husband’s educational background?

Judi's avatar

Interesting. I just think that if Hillary’s background was so open for discussion durring the Clinton years, exploring Sara’s husbands background should not be off the table.

Judi's avatar

augustlan's avatar

@syz: Thanks for that…it should be required reading!

squirbel's avatar

Hmm, I like that she breathes.

I find it easy to find compassion for another of my species.

That’s it.

TaoSan's avatar

The one (and only) thing I like about her is that she is so off the hook under-qualified that even the last shmuck will see how impaired Republican judgment has become.

I mean c’mon, the woman in all seriousness believed the VP is “in charge” of the Senate, and passes legislation. Ridiculous.

Religious fanatics and their detached views of the world are a serious threat to this country, unfortunately not only from abroad anymore it seems.

TaoSan's avatar

sorry, wrong thread

Judi's avatar

Her $150,000 wardrobe?

tinyfaery's avatar

How to get a new wardrobe? Run for vice president if the US. Maybe I’ll try that.

Judi's avatar

TaoSan's avatar

@Judi

LOL!!!! Exactly what I was thinking ROFL!

tonedef's avatar

I like that her busted ass lost the election.

plethora's avatar

@johnpowell ummm…..how does a woman father a child?

plethora's avatar

Well, I’ve read the entire thread. I do love to be the lone dissenter. I do not think she is qualified, but she is hot and I love her glasses. But neither do I think the current presidential office holder is qualified…..and, just as an aside, I cannot stand the sight of his wife nor anything she stands for.

Now lest you think I am one of those dirty nasty Republicans, let me assure you that the only reason I am a Republican (but not the dirty nasty variety) is that the liberal Democrats (for the most part…not all) are such a bunch of friggin loonies I could not stomach having to tell someone I’m one of them.

So I dont think there is any chance of her getting on the ticket and Mitt Romney is such a better choice. Although he is not hot, his wife is.

MacBean's avatar

Oh, god, what if she doesn’t…? D:

Roscoe_P_Coltrane's avatar

@MacBean, well if she doesn’t, I will die one day and won’t ever see her again.

MacBean's avatar

@Roscoe_P_Coltrane Good point. Okay, I feel better now. XD

plethora's avatar

The one thing I like about her, no cat calls please, is that she may truly be (although I cannot fathom it now, I can hope) the reason Obama is a one-term president. No, I don’t think she would be a good president, just better than Obama.

MacBean's avatar

It always amazes me when anybody calls Sarah Palin a better anything than anybody. I’m not even sure how she’s able to perform basic human functions.

plethora's avatar

@MacBean We shouldn’t get off on this, and I won’t continue, but me too…and she’s still “better than”

El_Cadejo's avatar

@plethora LOL while i can see obama possibly not getting a second term, it will be a cold day in hell before palin is elected.

plethora's avatar

@uberbatman Well, I won’t deny that. Could be. It’s pretty unimaginable now.

Judi's avatar

I don’t know. I have watched some people, while right leaning I had thought to be pretty reasonable go off the deep end wacko with this tea party birther crap. I never cease to be amazed at how the lemmings can be led to do anything. It breaks my heart.

plethora's avatar

@Judi What’s the “tea party birther crap” It’s the birther I dont understand.

RANGIEBABY's avatar

If you were to take nearly all of the posts in this thread and replace Palin with Obama, that would make me quite happy. You all didn’t even know you were describing Obama did you??
In my opinion Sarah Palin is a delightful person and has the general publics interests at heart.
I do think from the things I have read on this thread, it only goes to prove how ugly the liberal people really are, in fact I would go so far as to say mean and evil. You all know who you are.
I can’t stand Obama, but I would not say the things you people are saying, especially @shockvalue . That is despicable.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@RANGIEBABY LOL that is grand. Please tell me of the wonders palin has accomplished. Im all ears.

Response moderated (Personal Attack)
Roscoe_P_Coltrane's avatar

BLOODY HELL! I want to see what shokvalue wrote. Goddamn the censorship here.

MacBean's avatar

@Roscoe_P_Coltrane I think the @shockvalue quote in question was “She’ll be easy to assassinate” which is still there for everyone to read.

plethora's avatar

@shockvalue Since you bring the topic up, I would note that the Secret Service reports that threats on Obama’s life are 400% higher than threats on Bush at this point in his term.

RANGIEBABY's avatar

@uberbatman I don’t recall saying Sarah Palin has accomplished wonders. You must have been reading another post. Please read mine again.
I am sure you are all ears, so is the African elephant.

SuperMouse's avatar

@RANGIEBABY I’ll take the liberty of jumping off of @uberbatman‘s question. What delightful things has Ms. Palin done to prove that she has the public’s interest as her first concern? Honestly, if she was seriously about serving the public she probably should have continued to serve the citizens that elected her in Alaska rather than resigning to further own own self interest.

RANGIEBABY's avatar

@SuperMouse You know that she resigned to further her own self interest do you?
How do you know that for sure?

SuperMouse's avatar

@RANGIEBABY seriously? Have you been following her since her resignation? She has focused all of her attention on getting her face and name out there. Please share all the wonderful things she is doing for the betterment of society as a whole.

RANGIEBABY's avatar

@SuperMouse The main thing she is doing is getting people off their duff and making them them think about their input into society. She has captured the attention of nice and not so nice people, but nonetheless captured their attention. She has raised some issues for all of us to think about. I do not believe she has done anything to cause the hatred she is getting from some ignorant people that like to call names and just plain spread hatred for no reason. Exactly what is your reason?

SuperMouse's avatar

My reason is simple, I believe that Sarah Palin is a divisive figure who is only out to further her own political career. Frankly her behavior has given me no reason to believe any differently. You are of course free to believe anything about her that you wish. I happen to disagree with you. Hatred? No. Spreading? No. Just sharing my opinion. If it makes you feel any better I have no time to run around preaching the anit-Palin gospel.

RANGIEBABY's avatar

@SuperMouse I believe almost all politician are divisive figures. Our political party members have become nothing more than that of football team fans. Instead of dissecting what they are saying, people just seem to be accepting what they say because of who they are. Perhaps we all need to learn to research and think for ourselves, instead of trusting politicians that say what will get them elected and not doing what they say. gotta go, have company from abroad now.

El_Cadejo's avatar

You realize you said ABSOLUTELY nothing there right? Now, i ask again, WHAT HAS SHE DONE?

SuperMouse's avatar

@RANGIEBABY so instead of sharing anything that she has done you are going to go with the old “all politicians suck” argument. Interesting strategy. The folks Ms. Palin appeals to are the same folks Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh appeal to with their yellow journalism. This is a group of people I for one would rather see stay on their duffs thank you very much.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@RANGIEBABY soooo i take it your backing out of backing palin up with all her greatness. Pity… i really was looking forward to hearing about it.

RANGIEBABY's avatar

@uberbatman No not at all. As I said I have a guest from London here for a visit and I really can’t spend a lot of time on the computer. But you can be sure I will as soon as I can.

@RANGIEBABY good. I am dying with anticipation.

phil196662's avatar

Have you seen all the money she has spent!

Judi's avatar

I saw a picture of her and noticed that she learned from her RNC handlers how to spend money. She was wearing a St John Green leather Jacket. My Mother in law also owns it. She paid at least $1500 for it. I’m not faulting her for it . (Now.) at least it’s her money and not the donors.
