I am not sure about sciphone but there is usually a code that you can buy and use it to unlock the phone.

Call t-mobile, they have a division specifically for unlocked and unsupported phones. They helped me set up an unlocked iPhone.

But what is a “sci-phone”? I’ve never heard of that before.

Even if unlocked it can only be used for GSM services.

Is this discussion against the ToS for Fluther? Here’s a resource for your phone. :)

@tonedef – why would it be against the ToS? There are plenty of perfectly legal ways to obtain and use an unlocked iPhone. I didn’t say “jailbroken” iphone for a reason- my phone is not jailbroken. It is simply unlocked. All phone companies are required by law to remove the carrier lock if you call and request them to. (I don’t know if AT&T and Apple have found a loophole in this law or not, but I do know T-Mobile will help you if you call them as I have personally done so)

@jballou I was asking because people were being so hush hush about it. Also, I was unaware that it was even possible to unlock an iPhone without jailbreaking it.

But, an observation: neither Apple nor AT&T has ever taken action against an individual for jailbreaking an iPhone or iPod.

@tonedef – Yup, it’s 100% possible. In fact, in some countries, it’s against the law entirely to sell carrier locked devices. And Apple sells iPhones in those countries, hence unlocked iphones.

Just one of the many ways to completely legal ways obtain an unlocked iPhone.

New comer, this is for the person who asked how to tranfer tmobile service onto the s“SCIPHONE” call customer service for tmo and have them tranfer you to “TIER 3” that’s the department that deals with unsupported phones. I found that out today and I don’t even have the SCIPHONE as of yet, but its good to do some research. I hope that should help you out.

put your sim card into the i68 (so called unlocked phone), sim card slot 2 back wards to what the picture on the back of the phone shows. Your new i phone rip off will work and receive service.

Thank you so much damitkenneth! My phone also seemed locked and I tried this now it works! I was on the phone for over an hour with t-mobile and they could not help me.I recommend that anyone that cannot get their sciphone to work follow damitkenneth’s advise!
