Why is my Windows notebook making different sounds?

Asked by xgunther (449points) August 10th, 2007 from iPhone

The system default sounds such as the start up sound and click sounds and even videos embedded in IE are making weird mechanical music, as if my speakers are broken. But when I play a game like the sims, it works just fine. Any ideas? This is a new problem btw

You can set these sounds by going to Control Panel > Sounds.

gsiener is right then just change your settings back to your default. If that doesnt work just reboot your pc and this will fix many pc problems.

I tried these suggestions, but it's still not working. It's weird because any videos or music in the browser sounds extremely static-y, so much that you cant understand a thing. It's doing it not only in IE but Safari too. Yet, any saved videos or games sound just perfect. Any more suggestions?
