Word 2007 users - does this happen to you?

Asked by Mr_M (7621points) October 8th, 2008

First make sure Outlook 2007 is NOT open. Open a document saved in (or create a document and save it in) “WORD 97–2003 DOCUMENT (*.doc). Click on the Office button and click SEND, then EMAIL. The system just HANGS.
You can’t close WORD because you get “You cannot close MS Word until the SEND command is finished”. You have to CTRL-ALT-DEL and go to the APPLICATION tab and END TASK. Let me know if this happens to you to. I think it’s a software glitch. I use XP Pro, with Office 2007 Pro.

Did you install Office 2007 tools and shared features completely?

I’ve never had problems, but I run on Vista (ick). Office 2007 was likely optimized for vista, so I can understand where the bug may exist. You may wish to look into re-installing office to fix the problem. I may expect that some .dll got corrupted along the way. Rather than trying to sort that out, you’d be time ahead by re-installing.

I use Vista and Word 2007. No problems.

I’m using XP Pro SP2

I re-installed and the problem STILL exists. Something is stopping Outlook from opening? One update – once you END TASK, from that point on, you DO open Outlook when you click on a file saved in the format mentioned above. Note: The format is NOT the default “2007” format, but the WORD 2003 format.

Also, if you open OUTLOOK before you try to email in Word it works. Using a file in the default format (WORD 2007) ALSO works.

BTW… my test was on XP SP2, like you.

I just don’t know. Could it be related to my using Firefox instead of IE?

No it can’t be. My daughter’s account on this computer uses IE and she also has the problem.

Also, check your default mail client is Outlook 2007.
(Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs Tab)

This sounds like a bug with office 2007 and XP. You may also try updating to SP3, this may help your problem; the most recent bug fixes are supposedly in SP3…
