Do you use an alarm clock?

Asked by SuperMouse (30845points) October 10th, 2008

I remember hearing somewhere that if you need an alarm clock to wake you in the morning you are not getting enough sleep.

I have two alarm clocks: two small kids. Other than that, no.

I just use the alarm on my watch. It isn’t real loud but seems to wake me up just fine. I also have a clock radio that I set to go off a couple minutes later in case I sleep through the watch alarm.

I use an alarm phone.

I use the world’s most annoying alarm clock. It plays “You are My Sunshine”, and I am able to hit the snooze button by the third note! (No, I don’t get enough sleep)

Yes. It makes a lovely projectile.

I was happier without one, because I could remember my dreams. But I like
the extra hour of awakeness when nothing is happening yet except me and coffee,
and (for another couple of weeks)
the new light is really beautiful.

Nope, wake up when I want to w/o an alarm. Have always been able to.

I try to set one, but I usually wake up before it goes off.

Without an alarm clock I sleep 13 hours. If I were to go to bed at 10:00 PM tonight I would get up at 11:00 AM tomorrow morning. And if I were to got to bed at 6:00 PM I’d get up at 7:00 AM (my usual time).

Now, I know I don’t need 13 hours of sleep every night. I usually go to bed around 11:00, and get up when my alarm goes off at 7:00. This gives me 8 solid hours, and that’s fine. I’m never tired during the day. 13 hours of sleep is probably unhealthy.

I need an alarm clock to get me up, but not because I don’t get enough sleep.

Perhaps, less pot, pete?

Yes.

I go to bed at a very reasonable 10PM, but I must wake up at around 5AM. Even after months of this, I still need the alarm.

Everytime I hear a buzz similar to my alarm I cringe and feel like curling up into a ball.

The only thing that wakes me up in a timely manner is leaving the blinds up.
I could probably turn off one of those puzzle alarm clocks in my sleep.
I’m kind of a weird sleeper.

I am the family alarm clock. I wake up before my alarm (cell phone) goes off. Then I proceed to wake up my husband, daughter and son. The husband and daughter get up and get moving. The son takes a shower (after I yell his name about 1400 times!)(okay – only 1100….) and AFTER his shower he goes back to frickin’ bed!!! Then I have to keep asking “You up?” “You leaving?” “ARE YOU UP!!!!!!???” I like the weekends a lot. :D

For the decades that I was employed, I set the alarm every evening and each morning woke up about 30” before it rang. Curious, I thought. Now I have a four-footed one; he seems to make no noise until suddenly I feel myself being poked and sometimes note whiskers on my face. (not mine, I should add.)

I, and this is embarrassing, use 6 alarm clocks. All set at different times. And then if those don’t work I use my 7th…my mum

I am the same as MacBean. I set three, 5 minutes apart, and sometimes this still doesn’t work. No, I do not get enough sleep. I have to get up at 5AM for rowing three mornings a week and I’m always up later than I should be doing homework the night before so I guess the most sleep I ever get is 7 hours, but it’s usually a maximum of 6. Often if I set only one alarm it wakes me up, but I turn it off and go back to sleep and then when I eventually wake up again I have no recollection of turning it off whatsoever. Oops! And I make sure I set them a little while before I actually have to get up, because I always press snooze, without fail. This does mean I get a little bit less sleep than I could, but even if I set it for the last possible minute I still press snooze and then I’m in a rush. Stupid me, but oh well.

I use the most obnoxiously loud alarm I could find, and still regularly sleep through it. Like shrubbery I always snooze, sometimes so many times that it shuts itself off! I definitely don’t get enough sleep.

I haven’t used my alarm clock in months, except for once to take someone to the airport at an early hour.

beccalynnx's avatar

i don’t use one to actually wake up, since i wake up at five thirty avery day on my own.
but i have one set for 5:45 just to remind me to get my day started. too often i get lost in my yoga or star-gazing that i lose track of time.
