Does anyone else on Fluther not own a TV?

Just wondering if I'm alone on this one. If you don't own one, why don't you?

i dont - i used to but sold it off after i realized what a waste of time it and more importantly because of all the propaganda thats on it

"You watch television to turn your brain off and you work on your computer when you want to turn your brain on."

I do not subscribe to cable or dish, but I do have my MacMini hooked up to a 37" LCD, with wireless keyboard and mouse, so I sit back on my couch. Does that still constitute a TV?

Me neither, I grew up with a TV in the house but we mostly used it for movies, etc. Once out on my own, I decided that I could watch movies on my computer, get news off the web, and save a lot of time by not watching TV. Plus, any shows I really want to watch I can buy online too, and not get sucked into the TV network's time schedule. On top of that, all the garbage that comes from the TV... I really don't want that in my home or influencing my future family!

I have one but don't use it at all.

I felt very proud of myself until I realized that in fact, I was actually more than making up for it on the internet and watching just as much garbage. I was spending hours getting obsessed with YouTube, watching random stuff, and following all of the links on all of the various blogs I read. It's only slightly better because I have control over what I consume and don't sit there and mindlessly watch bad reality t.v., but I have to wonder how much better it really, is in the scheme of things.

I grew up without a TV. I don't own one now, but I do watch a lot of movies and downloaded TV on my laptop. I think I prefer it to any television screen ever.

i don't have one. it's so easy for me to fill up my time with it (mostly garbage, as above) - then wish i were doing more important, more fun, more satisfying things!

I have one, but it's about 13 years old and rarely ever gets turned on. I like to watch sporting events live, and occasionally a movie.

No TV here either. I got out of the habit of watching it, and never got a new one. Like, what am I really missing? I like watching movies, though, which I do on my laptop. The hard thing, though, is when I see a TV on in a bar or restaurant (which I really don't like - I think they should be banned from restaurants), I am com-pletely mesmerized! It's very distracting, and of course annoying for the person / people I'm with.

I don’t own a television and I never have.

I don’t own one because I’ve been traveling around so much this last year that it doesn’t make sense to have one. I usually watch all my shows online.
