Right kind of network coverage for my cell phone?

Asked by nick2008 (15points) October 15th, 2008

My mother’s house is in the suburbs. I always have problems with my cell phone network coverage whenever I visit her. How do I choose the right kind of network coverage for my cell phone?

There are some great sites out there that combine known data from the carriers (get your grain of salt ready when reading their coverage maps) and actual data from users.

Here’s one I trust: http://www.cellreception.com/
This is a new on that uses a Google mash-up: http://www.signalmap.com/
They also allow users to post their ‘real’ coverage results.

If you know your neighbors, the best thing to do is ask people what they have. Its not high-tech, but it works.

I just switched to ATT, but really enjoyed the coverage by Sprint for many years. They use older technology (the main reason their phones are so ugly) but it does provide great reception. Verizon also uses the same technology and seems to have better reception.

It seems that AT&T has the best coverage.
