Coca-Cola or Pepsi in your mixed drink?

Asked by robmandu (21331points) October 17th, 2008

How do you take your Cuba Libre… with Coke or Pepsi?

Do you care if your 7 & 7 is made with Sprite or Sierra Mist?

If you note that a bar is mixing with a soda that you spurn, will that change your drink selection?

Who the Hell mixes? I like my booze straight up! But overall I prefer a nice cold beer.

Instead of 7&7s I prefer CC7s (Canadian Club & 7Up). 7Up is much better than Sprite as a mixer or straight. Mountain Dew mixes well also. As for Rum and Coke, I prefer Coke. But if I’m just drinking cola straight then I go with Pepsi.

I prefer coke.. Jack-n-coke, rum-n-coke.. As for 7–7’s only 7 up for me both sprite and sierra mist are too sweet.. But my drink of choice is gin..

@ Rob, most bars don’t use either, so unless you are making your drinks yourself you shouldnt really sweat it.

Most bars rent tanks of no frills high fructose corn syrup soda imposters. My bar uses a cola, a lemon-lime soda, a ginger-ale, a tonic, etc. We even have Red Fuel on the soda gun… a Red Bull substitute. NO one seems to notice or care as it is a very common practice. Unless there are Coca-Cola signs or Pepsi signs all over the bar, chances are you are getting a substitute regardless of which you request.

WIth original Coca-Cola (the Mexican import from Costco, made with sugar cane syrup).

My recipe (cribbed from Paul Harrington):

1 oz Bacardi rum
1/4 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz Tanqueray gin
2 dashes Angostura bitters
(these last two ingredients elevate this from a quick “rum & Coke” to a very interesting, “real”-tasting cocktail)

Shake with crushed ice, dump into a Collins glass, and top with 3 oz Coca-Cola. Garnish with a lime wedge.

As softdrinks, I prefer Pepsi (because their diet version tastes more like the real thing than diet coke), but as mixers, I prefer coke – because it doesn’t go flat as quickly as Pepsi.

i don’t drink. but both of my parents INSIST that coke is the only cola that is mix-worthy.

coke as it’s not as sweet as pepsi.

Considering that it will take up the majority of the drink, you’ll want 7-Up proper if that’s what you prefer over Sierra Mist or Sprite when drinking the soda alone. To me, Sprite is just too sweet, but Sierra Mist is a real close substitute for the Uncola.

@Marc is my hero: My soda gun company (and yours too) now offers a real cane sugar cola option. I think I’ll be going with that from now on.

Coke with rum, Pepsi with bourbon.
Or neither with both.

@ Breed, really? i’m amazed. Just tonight i noticed that one of our two Diet Cola tanks was labeled “Splenda Diet Cola” I was shocked by that as well.

Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi either is fine with me.
