Good suggestions for guest beds?

Asked by figbash (7483points) August 16th, 2007

I have a few out-of-town guests coming but have limited bed and couch space. I don't like Aerobeds, at all, and I don't want to get a futon or install a Murphy bed. Does anyone have any good suggestions for rollaway beds, from experience, or an alternate solution?

well, after air mattresses, futons, and couches, my next best suggestion besides something like a camping pad would be a fold-up twin (if you have only one guest). we had one (from a garage sale) and i know they're sold at mattress stores. the frame folds in half, so it's upright, with wheels so it's easy to move around and takes minimal closet space, for a real bed. after sleeping on it for a while (months), it's not that comfortable because you sink in the middle - although i'm guessing a newer one would be much better for this issue - and it's fine for a few days. google 'folding bed' to see pics/prices.

Trundle beds are small, low beds that roll out from under another bed - they store away out of sight when not in use. I'm not sure if you can find one to fit under an existing bed, though, you might have to buy an entire trundle bed set up.

A thick foam camping roll and a sleeping bag? We have used them for young people. Why don't you like an inflatable air mattress?

For some reason the inflatables, no matter how hard I try, always feel like I'm sleeping on a raft. They flip around easy and I'm worried that if I have a guest who's going to be staying for 5 days, that's a little much for an inflatable. I think I'm going to check out some of the rollaways to see if they're sturdy. After just spending 3 weeks bed-hopping across the UK, I really feel strongly about providing my guests with a comfy place to land ; )
