How should I go about boosting my internet?

Right now, I am on a wireless network, and the computer with the router is on the other side of the house, so I am stuck with speeds of 145 kb/s, while the other computer is 60 times faster. How should I go about either boosting wi-fi, or improving my connection.
I Have a 54mbps router and a 108mbps receiver. Both netgear.
