How do you feel about voting promotions?

Asked by EmpressPixie (14760points) October 28th, 2008

I know that if you go to Ben and Jerry’s on election day and display proof of voting, they’ll give you a free scoop. Have you heard of any other similar promotions? If so, what are they? Also, how do you feel about that kind of promotion? What does it say about Americans that we are being bribed to vote with delicious frozen confections? Do you think it will actually sway anyone into voting?

I think it’s awesome. I love it when corporations show initiative to get out the vote — superficial or otherwise.

Yeah, I’m really excited about it. It’s smart on their part to offer it. I’m going to a Ben & Jerry’s scoop store nearby that I’ve never been to. I’ll be really happy when I’m there, too. They get free advertising, as you and I have done here on Fluther.

I’d be surprised if anyone actually goes out to vote JUST to get a free scoop. But by linking voting with ice cream, they are rewarding us for doing “the right thing.” I like.

I think anything that encourages people to exercise their right to vote is a good thing.

I am going to vote because it is important to me. If they want to reward me with a treat YAY!

Just you wait for Fluther…

I don’t think it’ll actually convince anyone to vote, but it is a smart promotion on their part, and a fun treat for the consumer. Win/win.
