My 2 year old boy has this type of diarrhea with light red color...?

Asked by 2late2be (2292points) October 28th, 2008

he has diarrhea for the last 2 days, he now has rash on his butt, he’s been pooping in green color most of the times, but i saw one yesterday and one tonight with something red colored, but not just parts, but all of it, it doesn’t seem like blood to me, but i don’t know, he doesn’t seem to be like with fever, vomiting, sick or dizzy, nothing, just the diarrhea, other than that you wouldn’t even noticed anything strange on him, and he is been drinking a lot of red colored juice kool aid, can that be? i mean, he pooped red colored yesterday, then he peed and there was no sign of red color for like 3 times, and pooped one more time green colored with no sign of red color, until this diaper change, what do you think? i will take him to the doctor tomorrow anyways… Thank you,

That’s pretty strange. Are you sure he hasn’t sneaked around and eaten something he shouldn’t have?

Go to the doctor for sure.

Im sorry, very immature of me. Get him to a doctor, though don’t worry too much, if he’s not sick other ways it’s probably nothing too serious.

he’s been drinking like more than usual red colored kool-ais juices, and some strawberries yogurts, but he pooped red then nothing, like just pee in normal color and no sign of red, then pooped again with just green color, and pee, tonight red colored again..

Sounds more like something he ate/drank that is causing the color changes. You are wise to bring him to the doc.

@2late2be, it’s from the koolaid. Too much blue stuff will make his poop blue-green. He shouldn’t be drinking kool-aid at his age; too much sugar. Try to stick to fruit juice or milk if you can. Yogurt is good for diarrhea; it restores the bacteria in the intestinal tract. They recommend what they call the BRAT diet when kids have an upset digestive system—Bananas Rice Applesauce Toast.

Most likely it’s something he’s eaten or drank. My kids would get orange poop when they ate carrots, blue from fruit loops, blue black from blue berries, red from Kool aid. Unless he is showing abdominal stress I wouldn’t worry too much. If he’s getting a diaper rash it maybe better to eliminate the color from his diet.

red dye will come out in stools especially if the fluid ran quickly through the colon as with diarrhea. Sounds like he should have BRAT diet for a couple days: banana. Rice, applesauce, toast.

agree with above note on sugared drinks. Pedialyte better than fruit juice when ill.
