After installing RAID...

Asked by shared3 (921points) November 1st, 2008

Ok, so I think I got my RAID 1 (mirror) set up. But how can I be sure (without pulling one of the hard drives out)? Since the two drive sizes are the same and all Vista is showing me when I look at properties and device manager is one disk.

Take a look in Disk utilities in Computer management. This should tell you what you want.
You can get to computer management my right clicking on the icon for Computer in your start menu.

b is correct. But I would add that you have to right click on “My Computer” and select “manage”. Then go down the tree and click on “Disk Management”

Vista has an icon called Computer in the start menu. XP used the term My Computer.

I’m confused. Where is “disk utilities”? Is that the same thing as disk management? I tried that and only saw one hard drive.

You can turn off the pc, unplug the power and data cable to one of the two hard drives. Then turn the pc on, you should get an error message about a missing disk if your setup is Raid 1 (mirror).

It is disk management. I was using my Mac while posting earlier and got the programs mixed up. Try right clicking on the drive and go to properties (in disk management), then click on hardware. How many hard drives are listed?

All I see is that there is a “RAID 1” driver. I don’t see two individual hard drives though. Should it be like this?
