How many times have you been acting Santa Christmas and what are your techniques for success?

Asked by makemo (531points) November 2nd, 2008

I only have a mere record of two times, acting Santa Clause, but I’m eager to learn and let sink in, some advice and techniques for improving success.

Some loose questions:

How do you do it? What’s your initial approach—same or different concept each time? What do you do when planned plots take… other turns, or just go plain wrong? Best practices in case of emergency and vanishing techniques? How much of an actor are you willing to become?

10–15 beers and you will be the jolliest Santa ever. This secret technique also makes you a great Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Great Pumpkin or whatever else you are in a situation to portray.

I was just enrolled for the task this year, to be Santa at my son’s kindergarten. This time will be a tricky one, because I won’t be able to consume a single drop of any special… breweries.

@ paneech1472: I like the ‘portraying’ aspect. What’s the gist of the “Santa personality” after all? I’m sure I never nailed it so far. Last time, mother in law pasted beard all over my face, covering mouth, nose, even my eyes. I decided to take up on some sort of semi demented, harkling-voiced elderly… weirdo. Oddly it must have worked, but I sure didn’t feel like I did portraying the character of Santa’s stature any justice.

Just pretend you’re fat and happy, with a twinkle in your eye and a smile in your voice. You’ll be fine!
