NYTimes Article – Obama Says Speedy Action Needed on Economy

I’m very pleased that he is having a meeting with a lot of people who are wise to the economy – and who all have different views.

Assembled to offer wide-ranging advice, the group of 17 included Mr. Summers and his predecessor as Treasury secretary, Robert E. Rubin; Paul A. Volcker, a former Federal Reserve chairman, and Eric E. Schmidt, the chief executive of Google. The billionaire investor Warren Buffett is to attend by speakerphone.

Other participants included Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa of Los Angeles; former Commerce Secretary William Daley; William Donaldson, former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission; Anne Mulcahy, chairman and chief executive of Xerox; Laura Tyson, former chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors, and Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm of Michigan.

“A methodical and orderly transition is in the best interests of the financial markets, and Treasury is committed to making sure that the incoming team can hit the ground running in January.”

Interesting choices in your last three questions there, Squirbel.

I have, but he is careful to point out that he is “not taking action”; simply getting ready. He was wise to hold the press conference and state clearly, a couple of times, that we have a “one president at a time” government and his turn won’t come until 20 January. Until then, Bush is the president.

It’s to his credit that he has started his post-election behaviourt as one who intends to communicate to the electorate.

I think a large part of positive change and a more optimistic outlook coming from the election of president-elect Obama is the fact that America (and the world too) is so happy that the lackluster 8 years of George Bush is ending very soon.

I just watched a press conference that Obama had with his economic team on CNBC, regarding the actions that are going to be taken, and, like jvgr said, he did point out that they’re simply gearing up to take action on the economy. I particularly appreciated how he said that this is a problem that transcends party divisions and that his tax cut plans are not just a political ploy. The whole thing definitely instilled a lot more confidence in me.
