How Can I effectivly use Excel?

Asked by Rememberme (661points) November 11th, 2008

For a school club we took a survey of the students. We used a fancy machine to scan in our results into an excel file. Each Question makes a column, they they answered yes the computer marked a 1 in that column if they answered no the computer marked a 2. My problem lays in writing a formula that would add up all the 1’s and 2’s are in the column.
(we have 1300 surveys taken, so its impossible to add it up by hand)
thank you in advance.

This might help. Pic

You can use the COUNTif function to count how many times a number shows up in a row or column.

For example: =COUNTIF(A1:A19,1) will count how many times the number 1 appears in cells A1 to A19.
