Both Adium and sending E-mail through the native apple mail application don't function when i'm at school on their wireless. Anyone know why or how to fix it?

Asked by delirium (13718points) November 13th, 2008

My troubleshooting has only gone as far as testing ichat, which also doesn’t work. It just attempts to load endlessly, as does Adium. The mail application fails to send no matter which account I use.

Does your school’s internet connect through a proxy?

eg: When you open IE, does it ask you for a login?

I am required to put in a password to get in to the wireless, but no, no login.

It’s hard to say. I have very little, if any experience with Apple Products.

It is likely that the ports required for email and chat (25, 5190, etc) are blocked by your school network administrators.

If you really want to get on chat, just use www.meebo.com – I haven’t come across any school that blocks it yet.

It has nothing to do with your mac, it’s your school network admins that has blocked the ports required.
