I was never into them until I joined "iRovr":http://www.iRovr.com, and now I'm hooked. I enjoy meeting other people from all over. Since the site is designed for the iPhone, most people on it have one or are planning to get one, so we all have at least one thing in common. I think they can be remarkably valuable in allowing people from all over the world to share thoughts and ideas and learn how much we are all alike as humans. That is the potential... but only time will tell if it will live up to it.

I think all sorts of networking are simply fantastic. Social networking sites allow people to keep in touch with friends and family easily, they can stay up to date with events and such and they are also serve as friendly communities that are formed by many circles of friends. And they're also great to meet new people of similar interests form different cultural backgrounds. Not to mention the benefits of sharing knowledge, information and general banter! On a more technical side I'm fascinated by online identity and networking sites provide a brilliant opportunity for me to expand on what I know and engage with my 'digital self'. Having a set personality online is so incredibly spontaneous - I love it!

The coolest thing about Social Networking sites would have to be that they embody what the internet started out to be: a communication tool. The fact that ideas and discourse can be shared quickly and globally (for the most part, sorry china) makes SN sites a valuable tool. I like Multiply, but I think I will try iRovr, thanks _hearkat_!

it is a cheap form of entertainment. I like people and talking to people. It makes you see different takes or views on a subject.

Access to new people. I prefer to meet new people through friends. Social networking just makes all that so much easier.
