How long can I store lard in my refrigerator?

Asked by DandyDear711 (1512points) December 9th, 2008

I only use the lard to season my cast iron pans. I bought whatever kind they sell on the shelf in the oil section of the grocery store. I keep it in a sealed plastic container in the meat keeper… Thanks for your help!

I asked my neighbor, who’s a baker…
She said if you don’t use it often,it’s best to keep it in the freezer and take out what you need, when you need it. But she said it will go rancid eventually anyway. I’m sure this answer didn’t really help at all – sorry!

Use it to make the best possible pie crust also. It will last less long and never go rancid.
