Can you recommend a restaurant in Scottsdale, AZ?

Asked by derekpcollins (281points) December 9th, 2008

I’m looking for a nice place to take my wife in Scottsdale. We’d like to be able to dress up, but we’re not looking for anything too fancy (or too expensive). Any recommendations?

One of my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants anywhere is in Scottsdale. It is the venerable Los Olivos still good after many years. The very best guacamole that I have ever had anywhere and I have tried a lot of guac! It is a “nice” restaurant within it’s category, but still casual.

Scottsdale is such a fun place to shop and dine—especially this time of year.

Don & Charlie’s is great. It can get rather busy during spring training, though.
Also, I have to agree with Marina. Los Olivas is really good. Try the cheese and blue corn tamales.

@Marina and @AstroChuck are these places where we could dress up and not feel out of place (e.g. a suit and a nice dress)?

Los Olivas is pretty casual. Don & Charlie’s is a little more upscale and you’ll find people in suits and dresses as well as casual dress.

As a transplanted Scottsdale person – here are a couple of suggestions:

Ocean Club is dressy, fun, hip and very much the Scottsdale scene
Cowboy Ciao in old town Scottsdale is great fun, less trendy than Ocean Club. I adore Don and Charlie’s and Los Olivos both but wouldn’t consider either of them a “special occasion” type of restaurant. I also like Olive and Ivy at Fashion Square, which is hip and a good dress-up spot too.

Have a great time! I miss AZ so much, particularly as I’m snowed in at the moment

Is you’re looking for something casual, I highly recommend Carlsbad Tavern near the corner of Hayden and Osborn in south Scottsdale. They have a delicious menu of “New-Mexican grub”. If you like spicy food (or not), you’ll really enjoy this place. They also have a neat patio area that’s hidden from the outside.

Here’s their website: http://www.carlsbadtavern.com/
