What's it like to live in El Cerrito, CA?

Asked by St.George (5865points) December 14th, 2008

Contemplating a move to the East Bay. Do any flutherers live there? Is it quaint? generic? safe? not? Any info or opinions would be appreciated.

It’s cool.

-You’d be close to Berkeley, Oakland, SF, Albany, Emeryville…
-There’s some great bike trails, including one that goes through Berkeley
-It seems safe enough
-The Hotsy Totsy, The Mallard, and The Mel-O-Dee are all in El Cerrito.
-The estate sales rule in that area
-There’re some nice houses/great views

It has been a smile since I’ve been there but I have always known it to be nice and family friendly.

Wow thanks! Perhaps soon we’ll be neighbors.

It’s an easy commute into the city on the weekends if you can get there before 10:00 AM (like 20 minutes to downtown, no traffic). Slows down a little each hour from there on. It’s quiet and housing is nice. It’s also close to Berekley as peedub mentioned and to Solano Avenue which is a cute little street with some cool restaurants and shops. All of El Cerrito is close to BART so that’s a bonus as well.
