Could someone tell me how to pronouce "Chanukkiah?

Asked by Iwaswondering (52points) December 26th, 2008

My understanding is that the Chanukkiah is a Hanukkah menorah and has 9 branches, in contrast to the traditional menorah, which has only 7 branches. I can’t find a guide (for non Hebrew speakers) as to how to pronounce Chanukkiah.

‘Ch’ makes a gutteral sound that is hard to transliterate, but should be like saying an H with a bit of a clearing of the throat at the back. The rest should be like this: Ch-ah-noo-key-ah.
