Do you still pick your scabs as an adult?

Asked by asmonet (21445points) December 28th, 2008 from IM

I got into a conversation with some friends about things you’re told not to do as a child that you still do all the time. Like picking scabs, picking noses (face it, you do it in the car and you know it), picking wedgies, picking in general, making faces that never got stuck, etc. Now, we all pick our nose on occasion with or without the tissues assistance and we all pick wedgies or shift them as best we can. But we came up divided on whether or not we pick scabs. So, tell me Flutherites, to pick or not to pick?

EDIT: And what do you do with your boogers and scabs once you’ve dug them out? (thanks oasis.)

I wanna know if anyone’s gonna admit to still eating them…

Pick nose: Yes, in car. Then roll and flick.

Pick scabs: No – but I picked one by accident last week while scratching an itch and it bled forever.

When I was very young my Grandmother told us that when/if we picked our noses, germs from our hands would enter our noses…travel to our brains…and we would get TB or even worse. That scarred me for life and I don’t think I could pick my nose even if I had to. It might also explain why I’m somewhat germophobic. As for scabs, nope I’m not a picker – but I’ll peel the heck out of some sunburned skin!

She told you that,to stop you wiping the fruits of your nose on her furniture.

As I became an adult, I actually got a little angry because I felt shame as a kid whenever I picked my nose. You know, adults always made it seem shameful and bad, so I figured it was something you eventually grew out of. When I realized that adults pick their noses, too, grrrr.. So, I’m going to make sure I tell my kids that it’s not something to be done publicly, but not that it’s something shameful.

As for scabs, no.. where once I liked the scars (ah, to be young again), I now want to avoid them.

I am a compulsive picker of scabs, popper of pimples, etc. I really wish I wasn’t. Everyone needs to pick their nose at times (not in the car…you never know who’s watching!). I taught my kids to do it in the bathroom.

I pick scabs when they are loose enough to not bleed. Anyone pick or peel your skin after a sunburn? I did that constantly when I was younger, not so much anymore.

I pick my scabs and write stuff on my skateboard with the blood.

I still pick all sorts of things. However I’m proud to say that I never ate my boogers.
