How do I copy contacts from the phone to the sim on my iPhone?

I don’t think you can. You can only copy from sim to iphone not the other way round.

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren’t the contacts stored on the SIM card in the first place?

I would have no idea, stupid non-GSM Verizon!

Not on iPhone they’re not.

Also by default most phones store contacts to the phone memory as it allows for flexability on how the data I’d used.
