Have you gotten lurve, but not seen your points go up?

Asked by RandomMrdan (7436points) January 3rd, 2009

I think last night I racked in some lurve, but was shafted on total lurve points. I see all kinds of +5 for great answers, but only saw my points go up about 16.

I’m saving up my lurve for another Fluther Tee.

There is a limit on how much lurve from the same users will affect your score. You still get the recognition of having a GA or GQ, but for your score to increase you need a diverse group of lurvers, and not just your fans.

I have fans?

It is a bit misleading that all those GA’s and GQ’s show up as ”+5” over in the lurve window, when they’re not actually +5 at all. Just sayin’.

I guess we only have so much lurve to go around =(

does it regenerate the next day? I guess it’s cool I have a fan too.

Happens all the time – and no, it doesn’t reset, once someone’s given you the max amount of lurve, they can’t increase your score any more (that both rhymes and seems oddly symbolic!)

a friend and myself compete to see who can get the most lurve…it is what prompted me to ask this after seeing my GA +5. Good to know he isn’t cheating, and he knows I can’t cheat either.

Does anyone know the limit on what someone can give you?

For the record, I have two Fluther accounts, this is my primary one, the other I’ve only used for asking questions I don’t want to ask on this one. And, I’ve never used it to give lurve to myself, honest.

@Dan
The lifetime limit is currently set at 100 lurve points from one user to another, though there has been some talk of revising this system.

Another limiting factor is that a single answer can’t get more than 25 lurve points no matter how many GA’s it accumulates.

@cprevite: There’s clear patterns behind who gives who Lurve. There’s always people who will find a particular user funny, intelligent or interesting, and they’re more likely to Lurve your activity. For example, 768 of your incoming Lurve is actually from one user (naturally I can’t say who). They’ve only increased your score by a fraction of that, but that’s a heap of GAs and GQs. That’s a hardcore “fan” right there.

I think at some point a Fan would almost become a stalker…

cookieman's avatar

@richardhenry: Cool. That’s good to know. Even if it doesn’t increase my score, I’m always happy to the GAs add up. Especially if you put a fair amount of thought into an answer.

hardcore fan = groupie. apparently I’m much cooler virtually than in real life. ;^)

I wonder if I have any fans…

asmonet's avatar

@richardhenry: See. THAT is what I was talking about in another thread. The fact that you guys know that is weird.

richardhenry's avatar

@asmonet: Heh, I don’t know the dirt on anyone off the top of my head. We’ve busted a bunch of people who were gaming the system before though, so the tools prove pretty useful when we need them.

cookieman's avatar

@LKidKyle: Of course you do. You’re a chimp in a suit. What’s not to lurve.

@asmonet: I see your point, but someone has to have access to the data to help run the site efficiently.

Interesting, I just noticed that I got 5 GAs but only 6 lurve pts since the last time I was on. Since I am a lurve miser, and I don’t pay attention to names when I give it, my lurve (given) is more valuable than than others because my lurve will be counted. HMMM.

If I want to play the system…uh, I mean get my lurve counted, then I should answer questions where most posters have low lurve because they probably are new and lurvable. HMMM

This also answers a question I have had recently when several people have scolded an answer because it wasn’t as nice/thoughtful/intelligent as my previous answers-there are fan clubs!

This is an interesting place to come but following other people’s answers, that’s weird. <;}

@cprevite, lol touche sir.

@cprevite: Doesn’t stop me from getting the heebie jeebies.

@richard: HEEBIE JEEBIES.

I am thinking I really have a stalker now…I keep getting GA lurve, but my points aren’t going up… =(

asmonet's avatar

Wait… can you see your own lurve as a mod?

richardhenry's avatar

@asmonet What, the dirt on myself? Yeah. I avoid looking at it though.

asmonet's avatar

Now, I’m gonna be all self-conscious lurving you.

RandomMrdan's avatar

I can’t help but notice all the time now…I will get several GA but only get like 10 lurve for them…makes me kind of sad. They should take away the life time limit of 100 lurve IMO.

asmonet's avatar

@RandomMrdan: If that happened lurve would balloon up everywhere, and people could much more easily just lurve the people they liked and send their scores soaring, it would upset the balance. Bleh.
Just wait until your lurve gets really high and you get +5 for every fifteen GA’s. :’(

good point asmonet

I think someone just hit their limit on lurving me recently. My lurve used to always go up when I got GAs, and now it seems like only about half of my GAs actually increase my lurve. I was so confused, I had to seek out this thread… :(
