How do you find financing for remodeling a home into an energy-efficient one?

Asked by squirbel (4297points) January 3rd, 2009

1. The house is owned and paid for.
2. We want to implement solar power, radiant heating, and many other energy improvements.

How do we research to find the financing we’ll need? Are there grants for converting your home?

Thanks.

Check out Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency

I realize this isn’t financing, but just wanted to make sure you were aware of this as well…..

This info is for tax years 2006. 2007, 2009.

(We put in new roof 2004, new A/C fall 2005 and new windows fall 2008…..grrrrrrrrr).

That’s awesome, thank you. I said financing, but this is more along the lines of what I was looking for. We’re really saving and then spending, as opposed to creating debt.

I would start with your local utility. Almost all have programs of some type, and many of them offer rebates or other financial incentives. Here is one example.

Thanks much, Marina :)

Sounds like you’re covered as far as grants go, if you still need to borrow money,

1. get a home equity loan, you can withdraw money as you need it (only pay interest on the money you are using),

2. you can pay interest only (if you want),

3. the rates are very low (my is 3.125%)

I found this government resource that offers assistance to consumers.
