PowerPoint for Mac VS. iWork's Keynote? Which is better and produces the nicest presentations?

Asked by mikey7183 (338points) January 4th, 2009

I am deciding between buying MS Office for Mac and iWork, but presentations are the main deciding factor for me – so please let me know if you love PowerPoint or Keynote and why? Thanks!

Keynote is the winner by a long shot, it’s so much more versatile and simply gorgeous. also, the export functions are a lot more usefull, for instace the 2nd display function is one that i really love, never again do i have to turn around when giving a presentation, works nicely with my apple remote, oh, just thinking about makes me want to create a presentation

Yup, Keynote is the way to go.

I gave up Office and switched to iWork a year ago – never looked back.

And…I am the lone Mac in an office full of PCs and have had no trouble sharing files.

Keynote! Unless you’ll need to share your presentation with other non Mac users.

Easiest question ever. Keynote. 100%.

I’m a 5-year mac user, and I have not once used anything on iWork. I definitely need to look into it, apparently! Reading from Wikipedia, Keynote can export as .mov, .pdf, and as .swf?! That’s awesome!

Are Pages and Numbers hard to get used to if you’re an Office user?

Also, do you guys think that iWork 09 is going to be announced tomorrow morning?

Keynote is the clear winner. Much more intuitive to use. Very helpful interface feedback – like automatic guidelines for lining things up. Beautiful transitions from slide to slide, or from build to build within a slide. But be careful – use that eye candy judiciously. Full integration with media from iPhoto and iMovie. Easily export to Flash, PDF, or Powerpoint. Note that some of the transitions and formatting can be lost when exporting to PowerPoint.

@tonedef: It’s everything simpleD said and more.

In my experience, you will have no trouble making the leap from Office (although I’m pretty autodidactic when it comes to software).

Also, there’s a rumor the both iLife (iTunes, iMovie, etc.) and iWork (Pages, Keynote, Numbers) will become web-based applications – to be announced at MacWorld.

I’ve heard that rumor, too, but I really don’t think that most iApps (Garageband, iDVD, Keynote…) can possibly be made web apps. They’re just too resource intensive. I can see a few working… iPhoto->Picasa, Numbers->Google Docs, Pages->WYSIWIG HTML editor.

I guess we’ll know tomorrow. :D
