Is there an easy way to see what other events are happening in a local area on a particular date?

I’m planning some big events in 2009 (in the SF area) and would like to see if there are other major events planned for the same dates (conferences, big festivals, etc.) to make it easier for people to attend. Is there an easy way to do this or do I just grind it out with Google, Squidlist, etc.?

Facebook usually has pretty good event listings.

Your local Chamber of Commerce will probably have most of the business functions. You could also check local venues/arenas/hotels for other types of events.
