Does iTunes output 5.1 for episodes that I buy in HD?

See my quip here. I’m thinking of connecting my MacBook digitally to my stereo receiver, but I don’t want to bother if iTunes isn’t going to play nice.

According to Apple web page for iTunes HD TV shows have “stunning 720p with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound”. So I would guess that the normal TV shows probably don’t (otherwise they would have mentioned it).
