Illustrator - Recover Lost Files?

Asked by AllyMay (239points) January 14th, 2009

I had 5 unsaved windows open in illustrator(old CS). I went out to lunch and came back to my shut down computer (damn windows automatic updates) – Is there a way to recover all or some of those 5 files? Im sure theres not, but Im just really really desperate, I dont want to start over. (I know shame on me for not saving them as I worked)

Highly unlikely. If it was set to auto-save the file you may have a recent copy saved, but if you never saved the file in the first place I’m not sure if there would be a temp file hanging around.

Take it as a painful lesson: never leave the work station with anything open but unsaved that you’d not want to lose. Furthermore, never leave without making a backup onto your handy USB key for backing up, that was a painful lesson I learned through experience.

GAH! – It is SOO painful – and I never even thought about the USB back up. Live and learn I guess. Thanks for your help :)

I almost lost an audio recording once, and that’s something that you simply cannot recreate, unlike a digital image made by yourself from the bottom up. So be glad that your lesson here was not more painful then it could have been. Still sucks though, you have my sympathy :)

nothing i can think of unfortunately :(
I keep a sticky note stuck onto my laptop screen to remind me to save when i am working on something. I find that helps me a lot.

Warning: USELESS ANSWERS in this thread!

If you don’t know, leave this to someone who does!
I know there’s a way to recover from the temp folder, its not 100%, but it can definitely work! Give good answers about stuff you know instead of chatting nonsense. I am just looking for a way now to recover files and I get this load of BS cause clueless people feel like they’re experts.

“there’s no autorecovery for illustrator.” another load of crap. I’ve had illustrator crash quite a few times in the past and when I reopened the program Vualà the file was un touched- unreverted, as if it never crashed.

Repeat after me “I am not an expert and I don’t know, just felt like sympathizing”
