Is there a way to hook up my dell laptop to my television?

Asked by kkuehler (3points) January 18th, 2009

I have a Dell Inspiron 1200 notebook

http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?s=gen&c=us&l=en&cs=&k=dell+inspiron+1200&cat=all&ref=ac

and I want to hook it up to my television set so that I am able to watch things from my computer on my television. I have an older tv that has AC jacks and the cable input. Is that any possible way to make this happen

What video/audio outputs does your laptop have? Any s-video or hdmi.

Just FYI…..When buying computers and televisions in the future keep an eye on displayport. This will be the new standard for A/V for both computers and televisions. So in the future this will be the easiest way to hook your computer up to your tv. So far I think Dell is the only PC company to be selling displayport in their monitors.

It does not have a s-video or hdmi output, the computer is about 4 years old.

Well those are the 2 easiest and obvious ways to do it. Depending on how much you really want to spend you can get a vga to s-video/composite converter. These are expensive, likely over $100. Typically the more you spend on this converter the better the picture as the picture quality is based on the conversion technique. From what I’ve heard and read the full frame converter is the best type, but this is only hearsay.
