Can a strong enough taste wake a sleeping person?

Loud sounds, heavy touches, strong scents and bright flashes of light can all wake a sleeping person, so what about a strong taste?

maybe VERY spicy food. Actually, a man who ate a world record amount of habaneros last year died shortly thereafter. Last I read the cause of death was not certain. Maybe google that.

I imagine so. If a smell can wake someone (which I know from experience it can) I don’t see any reason why not. It’s all sensory information. And the tongue is a very sensitive part of the body. I’ll test it out on my sister tonight if I can find some of those listerine strips.

because you are not normally tasting while asleep, even a mild taste can wake someone.

@lataylor I don’t think Capsicum burn would count as a taste, though; it’s more of a chemical burn.

Moderate to severe heart burn, which causes an unpleasant taste, can wake one from a deep sleep.

@peterhepothead…I once inserted a cinnamon Altoid into my anus…would’nt recommend it.

@blondesjon In Slumdog Millionaire the kids take chillis and put them in someone’s pants when he’s sleeping. Apparently it hurts A LOT.

@Blondesjon: what the hell? How many ounces of bourbon did it take to make that seem like a good idea?

You know, I think the Home Security folks are missing a bet here. They should just get their interogatees drunk and offer them a box of cinnimon altoids. Or whatever flavor they want. Next thing you know, they’ll be begging to confess.
