Cheapest push email either payg or contract?

Anyone know of the cheapest way (in the UK) to get push email on a mobile/smartphone including the phone. Iphone’s high cost of ownership puts me off, any good cheap alternatives?

I know that Gmail has many options (POP3, IMAP, etc) I would look at integrating that with your phone somehow. So if you have a corporate email address, or another webmail account you could find a way to synchronize or forward copies to gmail. It’s jump around method, but might work somehow.
