Most all of those, except the techie ones. Also I leave out the ones that are specific about a certain place that isn’t where I live. My favorites are the funny ones. They don’t come along often enough. Oh, and I also like the ones that allow people to tell stories about their lives and personal experiences.

…and tech ones. Opposite of daloon I guess.

I usually start with “Is this question intelligible?” Then, “is it not something that I have already answered several times.” I have learned a lot of valuable tech info here for which I am grateful. And I also pick and choose depending on the querent. Plus, how much time I have to poke around.

Tech related. Or anything that sounds interesting. I like ‘thinking’ questions, whenever I see those I at least read them.

I decide based not so much on the type of question as whether I think I can do a good job with it. That rules out several areas, like the techie Q’s or game Q’s or pop culture Q’s, but aside from those, if I look at the question and think I have something worthwhile to contribute that hasn’t already been said (or that I think would be better answered by someone else), I’ll give it a whack. Looking back, there’s been quite a variety of subjects that I’ve weighed in on.

There haven’t been many Q’s that I’ve chosen to follow without answering- maybe 5–6 since I’ve been here. Those are usually Q’s that I want to think about for awhile to see if I can come up with a good answer, but they’re often already answered well by the time I get back to them

The questions that I follow aren’t necessarily the same as those that I comment on….

The questions that I might lurk on w/out answering can be anything from tech questions or a question on a controversial topic…..lurking is more about me learning about something when I feel I have nothing to add to the conversation.

Questions that I answer are varied….I might answer due to the topic alone or even based on who asked the question.

I can’t get interested in questions that have misspelled words.

I can’t understand most of the tech questions so mostly I skip them.

I always take the bait and try to be funny when a question amuses me.

I love questions about political process, ethics, therapy, and interpersonal communication – a collection that might be bunched into something like “the humanities”. But I can’t answer questions about visual art because I’m too far ahead of most people and it makes me lonely to remember this.

I’ll at least look at most questions. I answer many different kinds, be they silly or sublime, practical or poetic. I don’t answer most tech questions, as I am a dolt in that area, but I sometimes follow them, as I am a dolt in that area :)

Today in the NYT,an article about the evolution of language and why certain formerly boring words make some folks snicker now… http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/23/world/europe/23crapstone.html?em

I tend to avoid questions that bring out the Snicker Brigade. (Spare me any Mars bars jokes, please.)
