Why does my TV make those wispy sparky sounds when I first turn it on?

You know what I’m talking about….right? Especially when it’s cold…

Static electricity?

Ahh….yes, that would be it. How come it doesn’t happen with all electronics?

I’m not really sure but it would be interesting to know. Hopefully someone will drop in and enlighten us. :o)

this was common with older crt (picture tube) sets as the tube required from 20 to 30 thousand volts to operate – what you are hearing is a static charge building up on the outside of the set, quite normal
