Is the electronic cigarette a safe alternative to quitting, and if so, which is the original electronic cigarette?

Asked by luminous00 (350points) January 26th, 2009

I’m finding several sites that offer up electronic cigarettes and am not sure as to which ones are made from a genuine manufacturer.

You’ll have to clarify what you mean by “safe” here, as it can be interpreted in many ways.

This Feburary I will have not have had a cigarette in two years. I quit cold turkey and used good old fashioned Tic Tacs (lurve jonsblond).

My entire point is that the cliché is true for getting away from the smokes. You have to want to do it. If your head is not in it you will fail. I still want to smoke all the time but I’ve quit for so long now that urge to not piss away those two years is greater than the urge to light up.

i wouldn’t recommend anything that contains nicotine…that’s what you’re trying to give up

@Blondesjon .:. thank you, yeah it’s tough to quit, i did it for a year once…stupid breakup brought me back to it and i’ve been having trouble ever since. i once tried commit lozenges, but ended up getting addicted to those. how long have you smoked if you don’t mind me asking? i’m going to attempt to quit again for the 23852395832th time after this weekend.

@luminous00…24 years. When I decided to quit this time I was told by someone I loathe that I didn’t have the willpower to do it. He had quit two years prior because he had developed lung cancer. I told him that when he decided to light up I would have one with him.

I hate being wrong more than I love smoking. I guess you could say I quit out of spite

Keep in mind that when children start to walk, they don’t just get up and start walking. It happens in stages and they fall down. The trick is that they get back up and that is how they learn. For most people, it takes 7 attempts to quit to LEARN how to quit. If we are addicted to nicotine, it will be something we need to learn to be successful in most cases. Many people quit trying to quit after one or two attempts and they are short-changing themselves—they need more practice at quitting.
