There’s actually been some controversy whether or not the show is real. Regardless of it is 100% real, he does show some survival techniques if you were to find yourself in life or death situations. The show Survivorman is very similar, but he does not have a camera crew. In survivorman, the guy (can’t come up with his name at the moment) gets into situations that happen to people. (i.e. jeep breaks down in the middle of the african tundra) and then proceeds to make the best of the situation (i.e. ripping stuff off the jeep to survive.) His show is more realistic in my opinion. However, both shows should be taken with a grain of salt. These people have survival training, unless you find yourself in a life or death situation, I would not attempt anything they do.

Man Versus Wild has faked elements to put the host in a situation where he can demonstrate certain things. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/television/news/e3ib429a97580f60ae2b2ad34116dfe445c

I’m devastated. Sniff. I’ll never be able to believe anything I see on television again.

Ok, fine, can we use the word “staged” instead of “faked”? I don’t care what anyone says, even if Bear just “happens” upon a fresh goat carcass, it’s still the most riveting hour on television—I mean, who else drinks their own urine in one camera take?

I’ll take Les Stroud from Survivorman over Bear Grylls anyway.
I didn’t mean that in a sexual way.
