Can you text message 9-1-1?

If there were some emergency where you has your phone but couldn’t talk is it possible to text for help?

You can do this with 999 in the UK as of about a year ago and with the international emergency number. I’d assume you can do it in the US too.

Ah. You can only text the international number (112) if your country’s emergency number supports text messages.

I would hope so, for the mute and deaf it would save a lot of time.
I actually assume so based on that.

It’s a process, but we’re getting there.

I think in some parts of the United States you can, but with some risks. It may surprise you most 911 call centers are not as high tech as you think. Police still have difficulty tracing cell phone calls, althought 911 operators may track down a landline location, so it may be a while before texting 911 can be properly utilized.
