What external website monitoring service would you recommend?

I’ve been using Pingdom for a while, but it’s pretty expensive. What are you using to monitor your website/application?

The head of our IT department swears by Webmetrics

Must be pretty pricey too though, but he says they have the most comprehensive suite in terms of what you can monitor.

AFAIK they used 3 or 4 different services over the last 18 months, this one being the only one that lasted for more than a few months.

It’s great. The developer, Chris Coyier is the author of CSS-Tricks and is the CSS expert of Smashing Magazine. He’s really talented, and he has learned me a lot about webdesign.
