Give us your thoughts on snow!

Asked by Milladyret (1294points) February 8th, 2009

I’ve just spent the last two hours clearing my driveway of snow, and now it’s started snowing again.
My beliefe is that snow is someting the gods use to taunt us, to tell us how ridiculously stupid and foolish we are for living in areas where there are temperatures below freezing.

I’m not a fan of snow personally. It creates car accidents, sticks to the roads, and gets my car dirty from slush it creates on the roads. The only good thing I can think of from snow are the snow days you get if and when it snows so bad work and/or school are closed so you get to sleep in, and watch movies all day.

Well, since I live in Phoenix, Arizona and I’ve only seen it snow here twice in 29 years (and those were anomalies), I’m certainly not a snow guru. I’ve never been a cold weather person either so it makes good sense that I reside in the southwest, specifically a desert.

The one time I became intimately familiar with snow was my first duty station in the Army. I was stationed at Fort Drum, New York for 18 months and I had never, ever seen that much snow in my life and I was amazed at how quickly ‘lake effect snow’ accumulated.

I never want to be around that much snow and in that cold of an environment ever again.

Love it! Snow days with the kids, sledding, fresh snow on ski trails. The whole area seems to quiet down a bit with that fluffy white blanket over it; a walk in the snow an night is sublime. Enough snow and I’m inspired to whip up some hearty stews and soups. I really hate it when we just get an inch or two, that’s just enough to make a huge mess.

Sick of it!
It sickens me just to see the books over there———————————————————————————————————————->

My thoughts on snow is that I’m real glad when it’s gone! Actually, this winter here so far, has been pretty easy. But we’re far from being out of the woods. Our worst snow storm last year was in March.

@jbfletcherfan
Where are you located again?
Boston is pretty terrible!
I hate that black, intoxicated snow crap on the side of the road. Isn’t is gross?! Yuch!
Dare someone to eat it.

@90s_kid I’m in Iowa. We’ve had A LOT of snow this year. but for some reason, it’s just not been a problem yet. If it comes down easy & there isn’t high winds, it’s manageable. It’s SO pretty at first, but then it starts to melt & get dirty. NOT pretty. :-(

I like snow as a concept, but do not like dealing with the daily reality of it.

Everyone seems to hate it… I love it! Probably because I don’t drive yet or have to shovel the walkway… and I’m always optimist about a snowday. :-)

I hate snow! Summer can’t come fast enough for me! I am a tank top and sandals kind of gal.

I love snow… snow days, being in a snow globe (gianormous window next to my desk at work makes it look like I’m inside a snow globe and it is amazing)... and my SO is a mad skier so… of course… what’s not to Love!

i’ve heard that eskimos have about 24 words to describe snow, or 24 more words than we do to describe snow, so our thoughts on snow can’t really compare to theirs because our vocabulary to understand it is so limited by comparison.

i thought that was interesting.

for the record, i live in florida. i can’t legitimately answer this question.

Have you ever experienced snow in Florida?

mea05key's avatar

it feels good when it snows without any wind. I hate when snow its over usually it means rain. I will get all drenched walking back from work it sucked. Roads get muddy, water puddles are everywhere, and worse, water seeps into my shoe.

asmonet's avatar

@tiffyandthewall: It’s snowed there, rarely, but it has. Hail is more likely. :)

Thundersnow is an amazing experience. A little over a year ago, we had thundersnow that lasted for over an hour. Fun!

I have a love/hate relationship with snow. I love how beautiful and magical it is but I hate how friggin’ cold it is, and how inconvenient it is when you aren’t playing in it or admiring it. You know, like when you have to freeze to death and exhaust yourself from shoveling it or removing it from your car.

@asmonet, i heard that there was a brief snow/flurry in…i want to say the 70s…my pscyh teacher said that he was in grade school at the time, and his teacher let the kids out to see it.

@90s, nope, i haven’t. ):

asmonet's avatar

The was one short burst of flurries in the 90s too I believe, very early 90s. I know it hailed a lot more in hurricane season.

I’m in a bad situation because I absolutely hate cold and snow and I live in Colorado Springs. The money is why I’m here. I plan on moving to Dallas or OKC this year. Did I mention that I hate snow.

Love it if I have nowhere to go, and can just sit inside and look at it. It also helps if it only lasts one day, and all melts away by the next. If I have to be out in it, well, I’d sooner stick needles in my eyes.

90s_kid's avatar

@asmonet
I knew it! Just knew it!
You may not have experienced it, @tiffyandthewall, but it might be a good thing that you didn’t. And shame on me for not knowing it was in the 90’s….kidding
