Any good international internet radio stations?

Asked by StellarAirman (2902points) February 8th, 2009

I’m in Iraq right now and Pandora won’t work. Any good ones that you know of that will work anywhere? Looking mostly for alternative rock type stuff, or maybe electronic music. Also the internet is slow here (128kbps) so it would have to be a relatively low quality stream.

Looks like Last.fm is working but skips a lot, I think it’s a full quality stream or something.

And I forgot to copy my music to my laptop. :(

I think Winamp offers quite a lot of internet radio stations.

SHOUTcast radio is what you’re looking for. The site is run by Nullsoft (makers of Winamp) but the streams are from all over. You can browse a genre on the right-hand side of the main page, and you can limit them by bitrate all the way from broadband down to 28kbps.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll try those out when my internet decides to stay connected for more than a few minutes at a time. :)
