How long before a wedding can you send out "Save the Date" announcements?

Asked by Supergirl (1696points) October 7th, 2007

We are getting married next summer and want to make sure people save the date and don’t want to wait until we send out the invites 8 weeks before.

a year, maybe 8 months.

9–12 months ideally (if not, as soon as you can)

but (if your guest list isn’t finalized, if you don’t have the cards ready, etc) you can also just tell the most important people that you want to be sure are there

If people are going to have to travel to the wedding, I’d definitely give them a year if you can – that way they can get the best deals on plane tickets and such.

But zina’s right too – if you can’t get the cards out that early, make sure you at least tell the most important people so they can mark their calendars!

send out two batches. One at 12 months to the more important ppl. see how many don’t RSVP then send out the 2nd batch.

We called them backups. LOL.

I agree with zina that 9–12 months is ideal. Also, lots of people these days are sending Save the Dates electronically – over email or evite. just fyi

Even 6 months is enough notice.

I’ve been getting most of mine at 6 months.

I’ve gotten at the latest 6 months and the earliest was one couple who sent such a card a year and a half before. Now that’s optimism!
