Does anyone know how to make eyelid twitching stop?

Asked by Angel_D (51points) February 12th, 2009

I know it is likely eye strain from too much time on the computer but how can you make it stop. I can’t stop working on the computer, its my job so that is not a luxury I can afford to quit.

it’s hard to say what causes eye twitching – some people claim stress, dry eyes and lack of sleep are reasons – so try to get more sleep and reduce stress if at all possible

you can try eye drops to see if that relieves the problem.

If it persists you may have to contact a doctor to see if there are underlying neurological reasons for the twitching. There are remedies, including botox injections and surgery if it continues for a long time.

get plenty of sleep, and every hour you’re in front of the computer, try to get away from it for 10–15 minutes and walk around and relax your eyes.

Taking breaks might be my best option. I’m quiting smoking (for about 10 weeks now) and I guess because I don’t take breaks much at work now it’s really increased the eye twitching. I did see my optometrist though and he just said it was eyestrain and nothing more. It’s almost impossible to not focusing on something, at least it is for me.

My eye has twitching fits from time to time. I don’t use the computer alot and can’t relate the twitching to any particular thing.
I GENTLY rub my eye and try to ignore it and it stops within a few minutes.

Similar to cdwccrn’s technique, I shut both my eyes, press gently on both lids and breathe slowly from the diaphragm (yoga breathing), and the twitch stops after several minutes/

I’ve heard when your eyelid is twitching like that that it’s becasue of a lack of potassium. So maybe eat a bananna or two? Good luck! That’s so annoying when that happens.

I get this from time to time too – and can trace it back to lack of sleep every time! Drink plenty of water and get a couple of extra hours of sleep. If you can’t wait till you can get some sleep, try stretching and relaxing – that can help too.

When I get it, it has nothing to do with the computer. I just need more sleep. Good luck!

I have that, too! My mom says it is a lack of potassium, but says that because she knows that I hate bananas.

Get a good night’s sleep.
