How long should ball joints last on a 2001 Ford Explorer?

Asked by hossman (3291points) November 21st, 2006
It has 55,000 miles, one mechanic wants to replace them, another mechanic says there is "a little bit of a separation" and to just keep your eye on it.

Ford you say hmm about 6 years maybe 9 if you look after it and don’t use it too much. Ford is a very cheep make (Im not saying you have a car, jeep what ever it is. Its just true) I would say it is about time to change. I have a Volvo and it has 100,000 miles on it and its from 1994. Now that is about the best you could get from a very good make. So half that on a Ford I’d say your mechanic is right.
