Can I take my macbook into the bathroom with me when I shower?

Moisture destroying the inside of my computer vs. listening to sweet jams while getting soapy… Thoughts?

I don’t see a problem with it…but to be on the safe side you could leave it on the counter near the door and just leave it cracked a bit to let most the steam out…or maybe even just a fan to blow on it or something.

How long do you stay in the shower, 10 minutes or 45? Can you put it near a window that you can open a bit?

Shit, I do it. I hope it’s not that harmful. The groovy tunes seem totally worth it, and you can time your showers.

why can’t you get a portable speakers for your ipod or mp3 player. I would much rather risk the destruction of that than say my entire computer. I bought a hard cased portable speakers for my ipod from Target for maybe $100 and use it from time to time when I’m in the shower.

you could bring the macbook into the bathroom, but i’m not sure you’d hear anything out of the worst speakers in the world.

Yeah. I wouldn’t risk it. You don’t even need the portable speakers for the iPod. I have an attachment that transmits the iPod music to an empty FM station and I listen through the bathroom radio while my iPod is in the next room.

It’s a bad idea. Humidity from the shower will inevitably end up on your internal components increasing the risk of corrosion across connections or even worse a short. Best case you run the risk of reducing the time for end of life for your computer.

Electronic companies run end of life testing on their electronics components which goes through a humidity chamber, similar to something you would see in your bathroom with the door shut but obviously on a much smaller scale. This tends to corrode the plating on the contacts which generates opens in any seperable interface in the system.

Electronics and water generally shouldn’t be mixed.

If you want tunes in your bathroom, install a set of shower or waterproof speakers in the bathroom, find a place to put your laptop outside of the bathroom that is in reach of the speakers, and plug it in when you want bathroom tunes. Or, make it easier and use a pair of streaming speakers – however you may eventually face the same situation with non-waterproof speakers as you are trying to avoid with the laptop (corrosion or intrusion of water or humidity causing problems) unless you find a product similar to this one (which is built for iPods, not Macbooks sadly).

To sum up: Buy speakers, computer + water = bad

Keep a distance from the water an make sure it’s ventilated so you don’t get steam into it and you should be fine.

Personally I Bring my Mac Book into within about 3 feet from the back of my shower (i have a curtain, not the two hard pieces of plastic) almost everyday and i’ve had absolutely no problems with it and i’ve had my MacBook for over a year now it works great! I’ve even sat down in the bathtub with it on a sort of stand beside my tub to listen to music and i’ve gotten some water on the touch pad and it didn’t even hurt it! So i’d definitely say that you shouldn’t worry if you are careful to not splash a whole bunch of water onto it you should be fine.
