Lately, about $250—$450. When the economy was much better, it would be double that amount.

I don’t charge a set price for a logo. I charge for my time, and the logo is complete when the client is satisfied. This ensures I get fairly compensated for the amount of effort I put into the work as well as the emails or discussions we have as the work progresses.

As for the final pricetag, it varies depending on who my client is, what our relationship is, what their budget is, whether the client really knows what they want, etc. In general though I spend anywhere between 5–30 hours designing a logo, which amounts to $200—$1000CDN for the logo.

The final price also depends on the rights which are sold as well. For instance I like to display the logos I’ve designed in my portfolio, and I may want to reuse any techniques that I use or develop in designing the logo. These terms are included in my standard contract which is signed by all parties prior to work beginning. These rights can be negotiated by the other party, generally for more compensation.

It’s a range of $200.00 to $2000.00.

Small business (limited use) ——————> Large company/corporation (unlimited use)

I always charge a flat rate. Never by the hour, although I calculate how many hours I think it will take to help determine the flat rate. Usage is a big part of the price. Most logo clients want unlimited usage, so I add for that.

Logo variations (seasonal, per division or department, etc.) are charged at 25% to 50% of the original price.

I always include a clause about me maintaining the right to display for portfolio purposes. This has rarely been argued.

I would suggest using the Graphic Artists Guild Pricing and Ethical Guidelines Handbook to better understand the structure of the agreement and usage rights. The suggested prices in there, however, are way too high (particularly given the economy).

Depending on the Scope of Work, between $500 at the low end up to $2000 for large clients with an involved process.
