What do you do when you realize that you've just done something really stupid, but it's too late to do anything about it?

Asked by loser (15032points) February 24th, 2009

I’m finding myself with the urge to sit under the dining room table. Seriously, it’s looking good under there.

I rant and rave for a bit. Then I calm down, fess up if it involves someone else, and try to move on.

Why… what’d you do? C’mon, you can tell us!

Apologize. I’m the master of doing stupid shit. You will have to eventually deal with it. Might as well deal with it now.

It helps to realize that even though you are beating yourself up over it chances are nobody else is really dwelling on it. Or even if they are it will be ancient history with them fast.

Stupid stuff happens. None of us are immune.

I own up to it, apologize, grovel, and do whatever it takes to put the incident behind me as quickly as possible. Stupid is as stupid does, right Forrest?

Admit nothing, deny everything and make counter-accusations.

I acknowledge that what I did was stupid and apologise for it.

I curse a bit, say I’m sorry, and do something else, and have trouble falling asleep the next couple of days.
Depends on how bad it is, tho.

I’d kick myself for it, mumble incoherently for a bit about how much of an idiot I was, and then apologize…

What is done is over – time waits for noone and cannot be reversed. Apologise and carry on.

It depends on what exactly I’ve done… but it usually involves, “Oh $@%&” and running really fast.

I usually… PANIC.
I seriously don’t know what to do in those situations.
